The UNHCR Leadership Academy founder Shamena Maharaj thrives on creating a better world for the human race as she believes that the human spirit is kind. The Academy was developed for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Canada by Shamena Maharaj, Alex Tom, Christopher Townsend and Elif Dincer Ambelez.
The mission of the UNHCR is to safeguard the rights and wellbeing of refugees globally: relentlessly going above and beyond on a daily basis to create a safe place for people displaced by violence, conflict and persecution. UNHCR Canada helps refugees survive, recover and build a better future for themselves and their families.
The goal of the UNHCR Leadership Academy is to enable and empower UNHCR Canada’s staff to fulfill their mission by further developing their leadership capacity and skills, to promote team effectiveness, collaboration and achieve optimal performance.
The leadership team at UNHCR Canada knows the importance of continued self and team development and is committed to providing all staff with the opportunity to develop and enhance their knowledge and skills to thrive and to achieve UNHCR’s ambition, purpose and values. Congratulations to Shamena Maharaj and the amazing team of facilitators.
